King's Bounty - the Game

King's Bounty: the Legend

The game King's Bounty: the Legend is the modern sequel to the old King's Bounty game of the year 1990. Much has changed since this time, not only the computers, CPU's and graphic cards, but also the game itself has gone through many changes.

First there was the game King's Bounty, programmed by Jon Van Caneghem and published by his company New World Computing. King's Bounty was later followed by a series of well known games: Heroes of Might & Magic. Heroes of Might & Magic was made as sequel to King's Bounty, it only was renamed into HOMM to be more profitable, because Van Caneghem's Might & Magic role-playing-games were known all over the world.

Jon Van Ganeghem later sold the company New World Computing to 3DO, where he worked on his Might & Magic and Heroes of Might & Magic series. The King's Bounty license is now held by a Russian company named Katauri Interactive and they released the game King's Bounty: the Legend in 2008. It has changed much but fans of the Heroes-series can play it without reading the manual, the most of the gameplay is still fitting the old well known tactics...

However, the game King's Bounty: the Legend is not very much different from the Heroes of Might & Magic series, but at least a bit. Your hero is exploring the world in realtime, there are no AI-heroes to fight against, no city to build up and there are quests to fulfill.

The Story of the Game

You begin the game as a warrior, mage or paladin, each of them has a tree for skills of three different directions: Might, magic or mind. Here you spend your experience points for those skills to become a great and strong hero... or something like this.

Once you have completed the tutorial you recieve a message to show up at the king's castle and be honored with the pretty title: Royal Treasure Searcher. Then you are thrown out into a big world to find quests, enemies, strong troops and also to fulfill some important orders given to you by your king to save the world.

Once you managed to find the Academy of Magic, you will get a small chest with an important content: the Ragespirits. There are four of them and once you managed to talk to them and fulfill their desires, they fight for you in the battles. Each Ragespirit has special skills depending on it's history and ancestry.

While riding through the world you encounter several odd people and creatures, you have to make your way to isles or go underground and fight against boss monsters, that are very different from other games. You hire troops to keep yourself alive in the battles and sometimes you have to go into an amulett or other magical artefacts. (That's no joke, you really have to go into those artefacts.)
