Placing units on the map is as easy as placing towns, but there are some different options. For units you can make "Divisions". First you have to decide if you want the player to start with no troops, so he can choose all of his troops himself (from the pool you created for his troops in the last tutorial step) or you may place some troops for him, that would mean he will start with the troops you will give him and he can fill empty places in his army with troops from the pool.
In this tutorial we will place one hero for each fraction, and some divisions for the elves and orcs. We will also give the human player a division of three troops later, we create those with a trigger at a special place, nevertheless you have to place the troops yet and add them to an own division. Orcs and elves will get a few more divisions around some special places.
First choose the units in the "Object palette" window, then choose the fraction to set the first hero (Picture 6.1). Place the hero on the map, you can place your heroes wherever you want but in this case we'll place our heroes in front of their fraction towns. On the map now rightclick on the hero to open his properties window (Picture 6.2). In the "General properties" section of the hero's properties (Picture 6.3) fill in an unique "Object system name", set the "Unit Behaviour" for each "Difficulty Level" (that means the experience level on which the creature starts the game), and then set the "Direction" in which your hero looks when the game starts. The "Division" for this hero is set by default to the correct fraction. Give your hero an artefact too (Picture 6.4).
In the properties window for "Perks" have a look at the bottom of the window (Picture 7.1), there is a list of all skills that this creature can get normally, the list shows the level and the possible skills for this level. You can also click on "Test", this opens the "Test the LevelUp" window (Picture 7.2), here you can click on the "Next" or the "Back" button to change the level, a randomly choosen skill will be added and the three next possible skills that can be picked for this creature are shown. So click "Ok" to close the test window and give your hero one of these skills.
Go on and choose a spell for your hero if he is a mage or a priest (Picture 7.3). When you're finished with all the properties, click ok and give the other fractions a hero too. Once you've placed your heroes you can also go to the menu and choose "Map" and then "Units", this opens up the "Units list" window where you can delete a unit or change it's properties if necessary (Picture 7.4).
Picture 8.1: Now that we have one hero for each fraction, let's go on with the troops. In this tutorial the elves will get two divisions. Division one is the first hero Buildanesh (in town) together with two Elven Swords and one Elven Bow. The second division will be another hero (Glenderin) together with two Elven Swords and one Dwarven Crossbow. Simply place all needed troops on the map, the two groups a bit away from each other. Rightclick on every new troop now and fill in their properties as described in the tutorial steps before. When you've finished this go to the menu and click "Map", "Fractions" and mark the elven fraction, click on "Edit" and in the opening "Change Fraction properties" window choose the "Divisions" tab now.
As you can see in Picture 8.1 there is a default division where all troops you have placed yet are stored, their names are the "Objects system name" you have given them in their properties. We want to make two divisions, so we have to delete the group of Glenderin from this default division. Choose all the troops that should belong to Glenderin and click on the "Delete" Button (Picture 8.1a), this will delete the troops from Buildanesh's division and add them into the pool on the right side of the window. On the left side at the bottom in the "Divisions" part click on the "Add" button to create a new division (Picture 8.2), fill in a name and click ok. Mark your new division and add all the troops that belong to Glenderin into the new division.
Create two or three divisions for the orcs now, place the troops, fill in their properties and make new divisions. As you can see in Picture 8.3 the name of the division where this troop belongs to is shown on the map under the troop itself, one division for my orcs is called orc_zeppel. Now make one new division for the player, in this tutorial he gets two Rangers and one Royal Guards later with a trigger, the default division is the only hero I placed in the town and the Rangers and Royal Guards are added to the second division.
